CUSTOM IMPLEMENTATIONS
"TED" Thermal Evaluation Dummy
A major American motorcycle manufacturer was looking for a manikin to measure convective/radiated engine heat and evaluate rider comfort based on motorcycle speed and leg position. Because only legs were needed to conduct the desired tests, Measurement Technology Northwest developed a compact thermal leg system based on our "Newton" body form, with special hip joints that allow the manikin to be positioned on a wide variety of motorcycles, either as a rider or a passenger.
Data communication to and from the manikin is provided by a wireless RS-232 link attached to a Windows based PC running Measurement Technology Northwest's ThermDAC software - a Windows based program that provides control capabilities, data recording, and real-time numerical and graphical displays of section temperatures.
"BO" Thermal Heat Pipe Manikin
This unique thermal manikin uses sophisticated heat pipe technology to transfer heat to the skin surface, providing unparalleled surface temperature uniformity, even under non-uniform heat fluxes. The heat pipe automatically delivers more heat to the regions with higher heat loss, maintaining surface temperature uniformity to within ±0.1 C over the entire surface of the manikin. When combined with Measurement Technology Northwest's porous metal sweating skin, "Bo" can quantify the thermal and vapor properties of a clothing system with extreme accuracy. All thermal and irrigation functions are controlled through a computer based graphical user interface and Measurement Technology Northwest's modular electronic packages.
