Sweating Guarded HotplateThe Sweating Guarded Hotplate, often referred to as the "skin model", produces accurate, repeatable measurements of the thermal resistance and vapor permeability of textiles.

Measurement Technology Northwest's hotplate system was designed in accordance with ISO 11092 and ASTM F1868 to measure both Rct (thermal) and Ret (vapor) characteristics. It was developed to fit into existing climate-controlled chambers, if available, or a new chamber can be supplied as an option.

The system includes:

  • Hotplate with integral sweating surface
  • Variable speed airflow hood
  • Fluid reservoir and supply system
  • PC-based automatic control and data logging system
  • Ambient temperature and humidity probes

    An adjustable height airflow hood easily accommodates a variety of sample thicknesses. Two sizes are available: an 8" square plate with 2" guard, or a 10" square plate with 5" guard.

    Dry Guarded Hotplate The Guarded Hotplate system was designed to measure the thermal resistance (R-value) of fabrics in accordance with ASTM D1518. Accurate measurements of temperature and heat flux are used to calculate steady state thermal resistance.

    The system includes:
  • Hotplate with lateral and lower thermal guards
  • PC-based automatic control and data logging system
  • Ambient temperature probes
  • RH sensors (optional)

    Two sizes are available: an 8" square plate with 2" guard, or a 10" square plate with 5" guard.
